Breeding on land
A cow and a bull can breed without a corral when both of them are standing on the same tract, and neither one is in a pen.
The calf stays
The calf is born on that tract and stays there. You do not pick a weaning corral for a land breeding. When you want that calf in a feedlot for the growth window, move it after it is weaned. The 24-hour feedlot grace still matters. Read Cattle growth.
The same rules
The bull still spends a breeding. The cow still spends a calving count. Heat, season limits, and the lifetime wear on a bull still apply. A castrated male is a steer, and a steer does not settle a cow on grass any more than he does in a corral.
Land breeding is how a tract becomes a working herd ground. The grass still has to carry them. Read AUMs before you leave a bull and a set of cows out for the season.
