The herd
Feedlots
A feedlot is where a weaned animal puts on its adult weight. Grass does not do that job. The gain clock runs for one season, seven real days, after weaning.
The first day
Move the animal into a feedlot within 24 hours of weaning if you want the full weight potential. Miss that day and the potential is cut by 10 percent. Degrade points cut it further. The numbers are on Cattle growth.

Still feed them
A feedlot animal still eats hay. Health falls there the same way it falls in a corral. An empty feedlot does not keep anyone alive.
Steers are the usual finishers. A bull can stand in a feedlot too, and a Dustborn steer has extra room to grow. When the gain window closes, the weight they reached is the weight the commodity market pays on.
