The herd

Origins

Every animal has an origin. The three lines are Ironhide, Dustborn, and Skybrand. Origin is inherited, and it changes growth, calving, and how long a bull can breed.

Ironhide

Ironhide is the baseline line. Calving is very sound. Bulls follow the ordinary lifetime limits: low-count after 30 breedings, sterile after 45.

Dustborn

Dustborn cattle start with degrade already on them. A common Dustborn starts with 3 points. A rare Dustborn starts with 2. Degrade cuts weaning weight and the meat check, so these cattle need care early.

They grow heavier once that is handled. During the growing season a Dustborn steer can reach 25 percent more adult weight than the ordinary formula. A Dustborn bull or cow can reach 15 percent more.

Skybrand

Skybrand cows can breed more often. They receive 3 extra calving counts, and 5 extra breedings in a season. Skybrand bulls are born with a higher breeding capacity.

The cost is the calf and the bull's career. A common Skybrand cow loses more calves at birth. A rare Skybrand cow loses fewer, and a legendary Skybrand cow calves like the other lines. Common Skybrand bulls go low-count at 20 breedings and sterile at 30. Rare Skybrand bulls last until 25 and 38. Legendary Skybrand bulls use the ordinary 30 and 45.
